The front of this specimen displays a nice ridge of purple smithsonite, while the back exposes goethite and limonite. A loupe reveals that all of the smithsonite has an irridescent coating.

Another classic smithsonite specimen, this one has relatively small clusters and a color that is morlty a pale purple. There are a few spots that are distinctly pink, two that are yellow, and some areas fading toward gray.

I like this small specimen of smithsonite. On both sides, it displays a thin layer of irridescent smithsonite in a color I find hard to describe. Does metalic pinkish-purple make sense? This piece stands on its own.

This is an excellent hand specimen of purple smithsonite, showing classic form, luster, and translucency. In addition to the smithsonite on the front, there are multiple hollows on the back of the specimen also lined with smithsonite, some of which is gray.
