Turquoise is a Birthstone
for Turquoise may be a gem, but is not technically a gemstone because it is never transparent, and is never faceted. It is always presented as a cabochon or cut as beads, and is often wire-wrapped. The colors of turquoise vary wildly, from shades of green to shades of blue, and especially the characteristic blue-green color called turquoise. The best turquoise may have multiple colors, plus specs of pyrite providing a metallic glint. Most turquoise is stabilized using various glues and/or plastics to improve workability and durability.
