variety of the mineral zoisite) is the Birthstone
for December.
It is also the gemstone for the 24th Anniversary,
and a Tanzanite is a most unusual gemstone, in that it appears to have three different color shades when viewed from different angles. In viewing a tanzanite stone, the colors dark blue, green-yellow and red-purple can be seen, all a result of pleochroism. Lesser stones may have a brownish color due to the mixing of blue, purple and green. These stones are usually heat treated to a uniform deep blue color.
